Physical Education Knowledgeable Others (PEKO)

Physical Education and Sports Teacher Academy (PESTA) introduced PEKO in 2022 to harness the strengths and expertise of the PE fraternity to enhance teachers’ professional learning experiences. This is to promote Teacher Ownership and Teacher Leadership in their professional learning. PE teachers and other stakeholders who are knowledgeable in the various areas are appointed as PEKOs to share their expertise and experience with others.

The expertise areas include:

In this feature, we are proud to showcase two outstanding PEKOs passionate about PE and actively sharing their expertise on Outdoor Education (OE) with others through many professional learning platforms. They are truly exemplary role models and a source of inspiration for us!

Getting to Know our PEKOs

Mr Abdul Halim Mohamed Anwar, Senior Teacher (PE), Greendale Secondary School

Halim loves the outdoors! Step into his OE lessons and you will see students enjoying learning. He explores the use of technology to enhance the teaching and learning of OE, such as using drones, 360 photography and videography, augmented reality and virtual reality. Besides bringing students outdoors, he believes in providing a variety of other experiences to enhance students’ learning.

As a PEKO, he is a well sought-after mentor in the fraternity. He has conducted many sharing with other schools on OE lesson design and implementation. He also partnered with PESTA in co-designing several learning resources for teachers. If you are a follower on PESTA Facebook, you will often see his posts, sharing interesting ideas on how to make lessons more fun and engaging. Check out his innovative ideas on outdoor cooking and authentic hands-on shelter-building experience.
