Singapore Physical Education Association
Mr Leonard Koh Yiak Kheng
President (2022 - 2024)
Welcome to SPEA
The Singapore Physical Education Association (SPEA) is a non-profit professional organization founded by late Mr Lau Teng Chuan (our first President) and a team of pioneering Physical Education (PE) teachers in 1975.
The association is currently led by a team of dedicated voluntary members from different established PE and Sport organizations, serving to champion the ideals and professional practices of Physical Education in Singapore. We are committed to the promotion of high standards, sound practices and absolute professionalism in the PE and Sport community.
To achieve our vision, we strive to provide quality services, professional development resources, and customized support for members through a wide range of high-quality professional development programmes, networking opportunities, as well as recognition systems for exemplary PE and Sport professionals.
We warmly welcome you to join us as a registered member (click here) and be part of the SPEA family!

Invite to contribute - Articles for upcoming SPEA newsletter, 2022, Issue No.2
Dear Members & Readers
We would like to invite members to contribute to the upcoming issue of the SPEA Newsletter Issue No.2. The newsletter will reach members of SPEA, PE Teachers and Sports Coaches.
Theme for SPEA Newsletter Issue No.2, 2022 (Nov/Dec Issue)
"Ke Garisan. On your mark."
Building on the previous newsletter theme of turning the tide, we recognize that we are now in the new phase of a post-pandemic world. COVID-19 has impacted the way we live, work and play. Sadly this includes sporting activities we love. The critical question is how PE and Sports coaches can leverage the unique opportunities and navigate the challenges as we adapt to the new normal.
"Ke Garisan" is a Malay term used in track events and signals athletes to be ready to start the race. Analogically, how are PE and Sports Coaches prepared to navigate the post-pandemic world?
We invite all PE and Sports coaches to share how they are preparing for the opportunities and overcoming the challenges in the post-pandemic world as we strive to build a more active and healthier SG.
Topics can include:
PE and Sports Research Findings
Innovation in PE Teaching, Sports Coaching
PE Pedagogy, Curriculum or Assessment
Practical Tips to enhance PE Teaching or Sports Coaching (E.g: How to increase active learning time or improve student's learning in class)
Personal success of how you have successfully engaged your students, gained the support of your peers or school management or changed the school's culture of PE and Sports.
We look forward to your professional sharing and contribution as fellow professionals in this fraternity. Do contact me at ho_j_yen_louis@moe.edu.sg for more details.

Book Launch by PESTA on 18 May 2022] CPD for Teaching and Learning in PE: Global Lessons from Singapore
As part of PESTA’s 10th anniversary, we collaborated with Dr Susan Capel and Dr Julia Lawrence to produce a book titled “CPD for Teaching and Learning in PE: Global Lessons from Singapore”. We are delighted to share that the book will be officially launched on 18 May 2022 (Wed) from 4.00 – 5.00pm (SG Time).
In keeping with SMM, we will be having a hybrid book launch – a live event for a small group of guests at ASTeria, and a live-streaming on PESTA’s YouTube. We want to share this special occasion with you – members of the local PE fraternity and friends of PE, and we will be honoured if you could join us virtually from wherever you are. And for your support in joining us at the book launch, we will be extending a special discount code for book orders valid only on the day of the book launch.
Click on the link for the YouTube live-stream - https://youtu.be/CM2rsmN8v9s
We look forward to you joining us at the live-stream event.
Should you have any queries regarding the book and/or the book launch, please feel free to contact us at moe_pesta@moe.gov.sg.
