Latest! Release of SPEA Newsletter 2025 Jubilee Edition
This issue marks the end of my term as the Editor of the SPEA Newsletter, following eight years of service on the SPEA Management Committee. For someone who dislikes writing, I would not have imagined taking on the role of editor. Yet, this journey has been enriching. It has deepened my appreciation of writing as a powerful medium for the advocacy and the advancement of professionalism in Physical Education (PE).
Over the course of my term, several key developments were initiated to enhance the newsletter's reach and impact. In response to evolving readership preferences and digital content consumption patterns, the newsletter was re-envisioned into a blog-style platform to improve accessibility and engagement. In addition, the use of data analytics has enabled SPEA to better understand its readership and extend its professional influence. Today, our content reaches a growing and diverse audience across multiple countries, an encouraging testament to the relevance of PE discourse in Singapore and beyond.
A highlight of my journey as the editor was the publication of the SPEA50 Golden Jubilee Edition. This special issue brought together voices from the past, present, and future of PE. Curating this collection of articles to celebrate the progress of PE in Singapore was a deeply meaningful experience. It stands as a tribute to the collective efforts of our community and a reminder of the important work that lies ahead.
I am deeply grateful to the contributors and readers for their unwavering support and guidance throughout my term. To the contributors, your willingness to share your experiences, insights, and innovations has been instrumental in shaping the newsletter into a vibrant platform for professional exchange. The continued growth and relevance of the publication would not have been possible without your contributions.
I am equally grateful to our team of assistant editors, the often unseen group of people behind each newsletter. Their meticulous work in reviewing, editing, and preparing articles for dissemination has ensured the high quality of every issue.
Finally, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Assoc Prof Koh Koon Teck and Mr Leonard Koh for their leadership, and mentorship, and trust in entrusting me with this role. It has been an honour to serve the PE fraternity.
As I conclude this chapter, I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to Stella Yap as she assumes the role of Vice-President and Editor. I am confident that under her leadership, the newsletter will continue to grow in impact.
Let's continue to strive to make Physical Education a memorable learning experience for our students. One that inspires them to consciously choose active living, and to embrace movement as an integral part of a healthy and fulfilling life.
Signing off,
Louis Ho
