A Secondary School Principal, who had started his career as a PE Teacher 29 years ago with the desire and passion to make a difference in the way PE was taught in schools. Soon after his efforts began to bear fruits and he was awarded the SPEA Outstanding PE Teacher Award (OPETA) in 2002, Leonard joined the Association as a Life Member to continue contributing to his friends and colleagues in the fraternity. In his free time, he enjoys staying active by swimming, jogging, cycling and, if opportunity allows, playing badminton and basketball with his family and friends. Today, he continues to contribute to the PE and Sports fraternity by serving as the Vice-Chairman of the North Zone Schools Sports Council as well as the President of SPEA.

Stella serves at Hua Yi Secondary School with a passion for empowering young people through Physical Education, the arts, and meaningful relationships. With interests spanning music, sports, and curriculum innovation, she believes that learning should be engaging, values-driven, and purposeful. Her lessons thoughtfully integrate music, technology, gamification, and visual learning to create authentic experiences that inspire students to grow in confidence, character, and resilience.

As Finalist for the 2021 Outstanding Youth in Education Award (OYEA), Stella is deeply committed to developing the whole child beyond the formal curriculum. Her professional interests include curriculum design, the integration of music and Physical Education, assessment and feedback literacy, affective learning, and educational technology. She remains passionate about learning from Physical Education professionals around the world, continually refining her practice while contributing to the wider PE fraternity and creating meaningful learning experiences for every student.

Jason Chua is the Head of Department (Student Management) at Xingnan Primary School, where he is dedicated to creating a safe, caring and inclusive environment that empowers every student to thrive. With over 16 years in education, he has held leadership roles in Physical Education, student development and student management, guided by a strong belief in holistic education and character development.

An Outstanding Teacher-Coach Award (OTCA) 2021 recipient, Jason is passionate about nurturing both sporting excellence and positive values in students. Beyond his school responsibilities, he actively contributes to the PE and sports fraternity as a committee member of the Singapore Physical Education Association (SPEA), and has served as Head Coach of the Singapore contingent at the ASEAN Schools Games (Volleyball) in 2018 and 2019 respectively. 

As a member of the SPEA Publications & Publicity Editorial Team, Jason looks forward to showcasing inspiring stories, innovative practices and meaningful contributions from the PE community. He believes that sharing experiences strengthens professional learning, fosters collaboration and inspires educators to make a lasting impact on the lives of every child.

Francis Tang serves as a Senior Academy Officer at the Physical and Sports Teachers Academy (PESTA) and is a 2020 recipient of the President’s Award for Teachers (PAT). Deeply committed to empowering every student, he draws on his own educational journey with dyslexia to provide a unique understanding of the hurdles students face and common misconceptions regarding their engagement.

His professional mission is dedicated to decoding the challenges of learning and collaborating with educators across Singapore to develop effective, inclusive teaching strategies. Francis actively contributes to the educational community by sharing insights through blog articles and podcasts focused on pedagogy and student development.

Driven by the belief that every child has the potential to succeed, he strives to equip teachers with the skills necessary to cultivate supportive learning environments. His ultimate goal is to inspire students across Singapore to embrace their capabilities and achieve their full potential. Outside of his professional endeavours, Francis enjoys swimming, walking, and maintaining an active lifestyle.

Being an avid sportsman and outdoor enthusiast, becoming a physical educator was the most logical career choice for him, and it has been his mainstay for the last 27 years! During that time, he has held numerous portfolios from his Project Officer stint at Schools Division to Senior GM Talent Development at Singapore Sports School, which have allowed him to experience the full spectrum of being a teacher, an administrator, and a leader. He also ensured that he groomed his head-space by securing his Masters in Sports and Exercise Sciences early on in his career so that he would constantly be up to date with the trends and happenings in PE and Sports. 

Currently, he serves in NorthLight School (NLS) as Head of Sports Wellness. This tenure has opened him up to interacting with a different strata of students - an emotionally & socially challenged and disadvantaged group. He proceeded to leverage on sports, outdoor adventure learning, and PE as the hardware and heartware to nurture and forge character & values of his charges. Additionally, he deliberately ensured that the Sports Wellness SOW is inclusive and is accessible to all learners regardless of ability. For all his heartwork, he was awarded the OPETA in 2021 and now serves the PE fraternity in the SPEA publication committee as well as as a panel member for the OPETA nominees since 2023. In his free time, he enjoys the occasional kickabout as well as running and spending time outdoors with his family and friends, be it on land on a bicycle or on foot hiking or in the waters, kayaking and snorkelling.

Kumaran Arumugam is an Subject Lead & Adaptive Physical Education (PE) Teacher at Lighthouse School, a Special Education (SPED) school in Singapore that serves students with visual impairment and hearing loss. He designs and delivers inclusive physical education programmes that promote physical literacy, independence, confidence, and lifelong participation in sport for students with sensory disabilities.

In 2026, Kumaran was appointed Head Coach of both the Nepal Deaf Men's and Women's National Football Teams for the 2026–2031 term, becoming the first Singaporean to coach a deaf football national team internationally. Under his leadership, the Nepal Deaf Men's National Team qualified for the 2026 Asia Pacific Deaf Football Championship in South Korea, marking a significant milestone in the development of deaf football in Nepal. He continues to work with athletes and officials to strengthen pathways for deaf football at the international level.

A passionate footballer, Kumaran has competed in the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) Singapore Football League and Islandwide League for over 16 years. He currently plays for Pasirian Lions FC, balancing his commitments as an educator, coach, and athlete.

Boon Hong has been teaching at Eunoia Junior College for the past 6 years. He believes that Sports, Fitness and Health shape character and values and is most heartened when he sees growth and progress in his students. He enjoys crafting novel lessons for his students so that they can improve their fitness through various means, while enjoying the process.

Outside of teaching, he plays Squash, Basketball, Frisbee and Netball recreationally.

A PE Teacher for 35 years, Muru has taught in both Primary and Secondary Schools. He has held the Subject Head (PE) appointment from 1998–2010 and Senior Teacher (2010–present). He is currently pursuing his part-time PhD in the field of "The prevalence and effects of autonomy support versus controlling style in Physical Education on student's motivational outcomes" with the National Institute of Education, Physical Education Sports Science (PESS). He has been serving in SPEA as a committee member since 2018. He is passionate about continually learning new, innovative ways to engage students in PE lessons and healthy lifestyle pursuits, including functional movement activities. 

Lishanth currently serves as a Special Assistant at MOE Schools Division, Schools Branch North. Prior to his HQ stint, he spent eight fulfilling years at Seng Kang Secondary School, taking on various roles in the area of student development while championing character development through sports. An outdoor enthusiast, he believes in the value of adventure and experiential learning to nurture resilience, leadership and teamwork. Outside of work, he enjoys Underwater Hockey, kayaking and exploring the outdoors. Through his work, he strives to inspire others, foster meaningful connections and make a positive difference in the lives of students.
